Cabinet Secretariat’s Center for Government Translators and Interpreters Development (CGTID) is currently holding an Advanced Interpreting Training Batch II for Indonesian Government Translators and Interpreters (IGTIs).

“Cabinet Secretariat as the fostering institutions for IGTIs continues to make efforts to improve and develop the competence of IGTIs, including through education and training, technical guidance for career development, internships, and assignments of IGTIs to international conferences,” Deputy to Cabinet Secretary for Administrative Affairs Farid Utomo said in his written remarks delivered by Head of the CGTID Sri Wahyu Utami, Monday (02/26).

The training, Farid continued, is also part of the Cabinet Secretariat’s efforts to make Indonesia’s role successful in various international events.

“This year, Indonesia is set to play an important role in the international level since we will host the 10th World Water Forum in Bali. Therefore, Cabinet Secretariat is contributing to the success of the forum by improving interpreting competency that will be very much needed in such events,” he said.

According to Farid, Cabinet Secretariat also plans to improve the fostering management for IGTIs.

“In a bid to improve the quality and quantity of IGTIs across the country, we need a clear strategy to develop IGTIs. For that reason, Cabinet Secretariat has issued Cabinet Secretary Regulation Number 5 of 2023 on Grand Design of Functional Official of Translators/Interpreters for 2023-2037,” Farid remarked.

For the record, the Interpreting Training will involve Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) instructor and interpreter practitioner Eni Candra Tampubolon as the speaker as well as academicians of International Languages Institution (LBI) University of Indonesia Inanti Pinintakasih Diran and Sakdiyah Maruf.

This training is held from February 25 to March 2, 2024 at the Le Meridien Hotel, Jakarta. (FID/UN) (GWH/EP)
