According to Deputy to Cabinet Secretary for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Purnomo Sucipto, the provisions on Indonesia’s membership in international organizations are regulated in Presidential Regulation Number 30 of 2019 on Indonesia’s Membership and Contribution in International Organizations.

“The Presidential Regulation stipulates clearer references, corridors and, purposes for Indonesia’s membership in international organizations,” Purnomo said.

He went on to say that the Presidential Regulation states that Indonesia’s membership in international organizations is aimed at strengthening the country’s role and performance in international forums, establishing good relations between the Indonesian Government and governments of other countries, and building as well as maintaining international community’s trust towards dignity and honor of the nation.

He also expressed hope that the participants will come up with ideas that can be useful for Indonesia’s membership in international organizations. Through the discussion, the speakers are expected to provide viewpoints on efforts to synergize the country’s membership in international organizations so it is in line with national priorities and interests.

“I hope the speakers and participants can express their ideas and stances to optimize Indonesia’s participation in international organizations. The composition of diverse speakers is expected to provide ideas and stances from various angles,” he said.

For the record, Indonesia is a member of various international organizations covering various fields of cooperation, including politics, law, economy, social, and culture.

As a member of international organizations, Purnomo said, the Indonesian Government should make contributions and has a strategy on how the contributions can give optimal benefits for national interests. (FID/UN) (RIF/MMB)
