Cabinet Secretariat through the Center for Government Translators and Interpreters Development is currently holding Functional Education and Training Program for Functional Translator Officers, Batch II of 2023. The prograim is held online from 20 February to 3 March 2023.

In his remarks, Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Administrative Affairs Farid Utomo emphasized that Cabinet Secretariat as the fostering agency of functional translator officers annually holds functional education and training program for government translators who have just assumed the position as translator through first appointment.

“Every translator is obliged to attend the education and training program, and later, they are expected to undergo various technical trainings to improve the competence needed by their respective institutions,” Farid Utomo stated in his written remarks delivered by Head of Center for Government Translators and Interpreters Development Sri Wahyu Utami during the opening of the training program, Monday (02/20).

According to Farid, the education and training program aims to elevate the translators’ competence so they can produce error-free, accurate, and well-accepted translation outcomes and contribute to the success of government programs.

Therefore, the training’s subjects are in line with the tasks of the translators including translating, interpreting, preparing related materials for translation, and transliterating ancient scripts/archives and inscriptions, and other tasks in line with the needs of the related institutions.

Moreover, Cabinet Secretariat is committed to encourage a comprehensive development for the translators by providing various technical trainings, encouraging participation of the translators in international events, and establishing cooperations with ministries/institutions.

“In 2022, the translators had participated in international events, such as the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction [GP-DRR], the G20 Summit, and East Asia Regional Governments Conference in Bandung city, West Java province. We also hope that the translators will participate in the 2023 ASEAN Summit, Trade Expo Indonesia 2023, and a number of international events in the near future,” he expressed.

Concluding his remarks, Farid expressed his hope that the translators can understand and gain knowledge on translation concepts in order to support the tasks and functions of related ministries/institutions.

“By participating in the education and training program we hope that the translators will regain the understanding and/or achieve knowledge on translation concepts in order to be qualified and reliable translators to support the function and tasks in each ministry/agency”, he asserted.

The education and training program is attended by 25 government translators from government institutions at the central and regional levels. The lecturers are experts in translation from International Languages Center of Unversitas Indonesia (LBI-UI). (RSF/AIT/SND)(FKH/AW/HD/MEB)
