Cabinet Secretariat on Friday (11/04) held a Focus Group Discussion on developing effective communications for drafting and disseminating thematic books of Presidential speeches.

The event, organized by the Office of the Assistant to Deputy Cabinet Secretary for State Documents and Translation, was held at the Royal Padjajaran Hotel, Bogor, West Java province.

“This event aims to improve our skills so that we can provide products that can benefit the public,” Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Cabinet Work Support Thanon Aria Dewangga said in his remarks.

The Deputy said that a number of thematic books produced by the Office of Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Cabinet Work Support were still segmented so that the next books should reach more target readers.

For the record, the thematic books of Presidential speeches provide a comprehensive description of the dynamics and challenges faced by the Government in implementing development programs in order to improve public welfare. The book is compiled from various statements and directives of the President in introductory remarks of cabinet meetings, speeches, dialogues, press conferences, and other occasions.

The presenters of the Focus Group Discussion were Mohammad Umar Muslim, a lecturer of the Faculty of Humanities, University of Indonesia, who talked about writing strategies in drafting the thematic books of the Indonesian President’s speeches and Aprida Mardelina Sihombing, a lecturer of the London School of Public Relations (LSPR), who talked about the strategy for disseminating information related to the achievements of the Government in the thematic books.

“I hope that this FGD will provide input for all of us and I hope we can make a book that is better than the book we have produced before. Next year, I hope all of you can write a book about the G20 Presidency,” the Deputy remarked.

The Office of Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Cabinet Work Support has produced six thematic books. In 2019, five books were published. The books are about policies and achievements of the Government programs for the period of 2014-2019, with the theme of infrastructure, tourism, human resources, governance, and agrarian reforms. In 2021, a book was published regarding the Government’s efforts in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic. The e-books are available at the Cabinet Secretariat website setkab.go.id.
