Cabinet Secretariat Holds FGD on Inflation, Digital Technology

Office of Assistant to the Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Macroeconomics, Investment, and Enterprises of the Deputy for Economic Affairs held a virtual Focus Group Discussion (FGD) adopting a theme “Inflation and Digital Technology”, on Thursday (3/9).

Assistant to the Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Macroeconomics, Investment, and Enterprises Roby A. Brata asserted that the FGD is held regularly to provide inputs and recommendations on economic affairs to the Cabinet which is part of the duty and function of the Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Economic Affairs.

He went on to say that digital economy must be maintained during this time so we can control the inflation. In addition, Indonesia’s digital economy in the past 5 years grew rapidly compared to other countries in Southeast Asia.

“Considering our large population, the country’s economic growth is quite rapid,” he said adding that utilization of digital economy is needed to control and reduce inflation.

On that occasion, Roby also said that it is necessary to identify challenges of price stability at the producer and consumer levels during COVID-19 pandemic through utilization of digital technology in the framework of national inflation control.

“Furthermore, identify roles of digital technology for national inflation, and formulate the objectives of policy in controlling national inflation to maintain price stability at the producer and consumer levels by intensifying the utilization of digital technology,” he concluded.

For the record, the FGD featured Chief Economist of Bank Central Asia (BCA) David Sumual, Research Director at Center of Reform on Economics (CORE) Indonesia Piter Abdullah, and INDEF Senior Economist Enny Sri Hartati. (FID/EN)
