Cabinet Secretariat Holds Online English Proficiency Test Training for Government Translators

Cabinet Secretariat’s Center for Government Translators and Interpreters Development (Pusbinter) holds English Proficiency Test Training for Indonesian Government Translators and Interpreters (known as “Functional Official of Translators/Interpreters” or PFP).
The training is part of Cabinet Secretariat’s efforts as the fostering agency of government translators and interpreters at improving competency of the PFPs.
“Cabinet Secretariat as the fostering agency of government translators and interpreters is obliged to improve competencies of the PFPs in Indonesian, English, foreign languages other than English, and regional languages based on their respective expertise,” Head of Pusbinter Sri Wahyu Utami said during the opening of the training on Wednesday (13/10).
As many as 190 PFPs from central and regional government institutions take part in the training which held online from 13 to 15 October 2021.
Sri mentioned that the Cabinet Secretariat has organized trainings on several languages and will continue to hold similar trainings in the future in a bid to develop PFPs’ competencies.
In her opening remarks, she also said that globalization has increased interdependence among countries worldwide. Therefore, the translators must master language skills, both English and non-English to enhance cooperation and intercultural contacts with other countries.
“Translators who master more than one language will serve as facilitators who bridge two countries speaking two different languages to communicate well so they can have mutually beneficial cooperation in various sectors,” she said.
She expressed hope that participants of the training can make the best use of the opportunity to learn and prepare themselves before taking English Proficiency Test (EPT) to be held on 21, 22, and 25 October 2021. (FID/AIT/UN) (RAS/MMB)
