Cabinet Secretariat Holds Online Subtitle Translation Training for Government Translators

In a bid to reaffirm its commitment to improve competences of Indonesian Government translators and interpreters (known as “Functional Official of Translators/Interpreters” or PFP) to its fullest potential, Cabinet Secretariat held subtitle translation training for the PFP.

The training, which is held online from 19 to 25August 2021, is participated by 20 PFPs both from the Central Government and regional governments’ institutions.

“Pandemic does not hamper Cabinet Secretariat as the fostering agency of government translators and interpreters from carrying out its duty to foster the PFP through trainings,” Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Administrative Affairs Farid Utomo said in his remarks as quoted by Head of Cabinet Secretariat’s Center for Government Translators and Interpreters Development (Pusbinter) Sri Wahyu Utami.

She went on to say that globalization and the pandemic have contributed largely to the use of audio visual-based social media application.

“Globalization has made transfer of information in various languages a necessity, particularly to promote tourism, economic potential, and policies of the Indonesian Government to the world,” she said.

Therefore, she added, training on subtitle translation is important to disseminate information of the Government to the world. Moreover, translating subtitle can be done to videos to introduce profile of government institutions, to promote regional and national priority tourism destinations, and to introduce investment and business in Indonesia.

“In that regard, Cabinet Secretariat responds to the needs of training on subtitle translation to improve PFP’s competences in translating subtitle to support their respective institutions,” she stated, while adding that the training must also improve their technical and managerial competences, leadership, as well as improve quality, efficiency, effectiveness of their works through cooperation and responsibility.
