In a bid to strengthen security of Cabinet Secretariat’s official website, Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Cabinet Work Support Thanon Aria Dewangga has announced that his office has cooperation with the Cyber Body and National Encryption Agency (BSSN), the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), and the Indonesian National Police (Polri).

“In cooperation to strengthen security of Cabinet Secretariat’s official website, we are cooperating with related sides, including the BSSN. It is because we have been cooperating with the BSSN since the launching of the website. We also have cooperation with the Polri and BIN,” Thanon told reporters, in Jakarta, Monday (9/10).

He asserted that official website of the Cabinet Secretariat is a Government’s website that provides information regarding the Government’s programs and performance to the public.

“It is our task to deliver news on the governance to the public. Therefore, we have done our utmost to immediately recover our website so it can be accessed by media and the public in general,” he said.

Regarding the hacking on last Saturday (31/7), Thanon said that the Cabinet Secretariat has taken immediate mitigation and recovery measures to the hacked website so it can be accessed on Wednesday (4/8). However, the cyber team has once again detected indication of hacking activity that pushed the Cabinet Secretariat to temporary take down its website so they can strengthen its security and recover it.

“Once we have successfully strengthened the security of our website, it will go live and provide information to the media and the public. This afternoon, we will have a meeting with related sides, and hopefully the website can be available within a day or two,” he explained.

He went on to say that the hacker did not obtain any confidential data since the website only disseminated information and news that were open to the public, such as agenda and activities of the President, as well as other Government-related activities.

As for the culprits of the hacking, he said, the Police’s Cyber Crime Division has reported that they have arrested those responsible for the hacking.

“We refer the process and punishment to the police. Nevertheless, the hacking of Cabinet Secretariat’s official website has detrimental effects, not only to the Cabinet Secretariat but also to the media and the public,” he concluded. (TGH/UN) (RAS/MUR)
