Cabinet Secretariat Refines Grand Design Concept for Gov’t Translator, Interpreter Expertise Certification

Cabinet Secretariat through the Center for Government Translator and Interpreter Development (Pusbinter) hosted a focus group discussion on the grand design for government translator and interpreter (PFP) expertise certification, Monday (08/07), at Grand Mercure Hotel Jakarta.
In his written remarks, Deputy for Administrative Affairs of the Cabinet Secretariat Farid Utomo highlighted the importance of a holistic and integrated policy framework to produce qualified and competent government translators and interpreters.
“We realize that a holistic and integrated policy framework is necessary, from the appointment process and career development to competency development and competency certification in order to ensure the quality and professionalism of translators and interpreters,” Farid said.
According to him, this certification is the culmination of various career training and competency development programs for translators and interpreters conducted by the Pusbinter.
“We hope that all government agencies will one day have certified translators and interpreters in various fields who will become valuable assets for the agencies and even for the interests of society and the nation at large,” he said.
Through this FGD, he expressed hope to capture various insights to enrich and refine the concept of the grand design.
“The goal is to create an objective, accountable, and transparent translator and interpreter certification system that will produce reliable and professional specialized translators and interpreters,” he said.
The discussion featured academics and translation experts as speakers, namely Ida Kusuma Dewi from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) of Sebelas Maret University (UNS), Evand Halim a legal translation expert, and Inu Isnaeni Sidiq a Japanese translation expert from the Faculty of Arts of Padjajaran University (Unpad).
