Cabinet Secretariat Tuesday (02/07) welcomed students of Regional Development Study Program of Faculty of Geography, Gadjah Mada University for 2023 Career Trip at the Cabinet Secretariat’s Office, Jakarta.

Assistant to the Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Investment and Tourism M. Arief Khumaidi and Assistant to the Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Business and Regional Development Danil Arif Iskandar received 50 students from the Student Association of Development Geography (HGMP).

“Thank you for receiving our visit,” Agung Satriyo Nugroho, the lecturer said.

Agung revealed that Cabinet Secretariat was selected based on its role in managing national strategic issues, making policies, and implementing development.

“This is the initiative of the students. They want to apply the knowledge they have learned. The students have learned about all development mechanisms. They can see the practice here,” said Agung.

Agung also expressed hope that the students can participate in an internship at Cabinet Secretariat.

Meanwhile, Head of the HGMP Kunastya Mulya Pinta Ramadhan said that the 2023 Career Trip Program was designed to provide participants with an overview of the world of work.

Alhamdulillah, thank God, today, we can carry out the 2023 HGMP Career Trip where the purpose of this agenda is to visit institutions that are relevant to our career paths in the future.” said Kunastya.

Kunastya added that the program, which is held by the HGMP every year, is also expected to help broaden the insights of the members of the association regarding various aspects related to regional development.

On the occasion, Arief agreed that the agenda can help the students to explore possible careers in line with their respective majors, including working in Cabinet Secretariat.

Furthermore, Arief also explained the duties and functions of Cabinet Secretariat in assisting the President and Vice President.

“Cabinet Secretariat is tasked with providing cabinet management support to the President and Vice President in administering the government,” said Arief.

As a manifestation of this role, Arief added, Cabinet Secretariat oversees government programs and policies from the beginning to the end, including planning, implementation and evaluation.

In addition, Arief underlined that Cabinet Secretariat is also in charge of managing cabinet meetings, the highest forum for policy making in the cabinet.

“The cabinet meeting is [an event] through which the President decides on policies that must be implemented by ministries or institutions. The results of cabinet meetings, known as cabinet minutes, must be carried out by ministers,” said Arief.

Meanwhile, Danil explained the importance of the national One Map Policy in supporting development programs in the country, including the national strategic program (PSN).

“One of the most common PSN problems is on land [acquisition],” Danil said.

Danil stated that one of the goals of PSN development is to speed up development in the infrastructure sector as well as to increase Indonesia’s competitiveness.

“One of our weaknesses that causes our economic competitiveness to be less competitive is the very high logistics costs,” said Danil, adding that the current development carried out by the Government is not only concentrated in one region. (TGH/UN)(KA/FI)
