Cabinet Secretariat Thursday (02/16) at the Grand Ballroom of Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, Jakarta, won the title of Pratama (third grade) for the 2023 Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) award in the Central Level Business Competition category.

According to Chairperson of KPPU M. Afif Hasbullah, the award was a token of KPPU’s appreciation for the Government’s active role in supporting the creation of a climate of fair business competition and fair partnership in the country.

Afif added that for three consecutive years, KPPU has been granting awards to central and regional governments for their hard work in providing broad business opportunities for local and foreign entrepreneurs to do businesses in Indonesia.

“KPPU stands proud to be one of the nation’s components that supports the joint commitment in bringing in new investment through breakthrough efforts to create a favorable investment climate. We hope this is in line with the Government’s enthusiasm in creating new jobs through a number of policies that we are also observing together,” Afif said.

Afif also said that the level of fair business competition in Indonesia is still relatively high with the business competition index (IPU) at 4.87 index points on a scale of 7, adding that the figure can comprehensively describe sectoral, regional, and national business competition as a whole.

“In the 2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), the figure must reach 5 index points despite a constant increase. In 2019, it stood at 4.72 points and fell by 4.65 points in 2020, and rose by 4.81 points in 2021,” he explained.

On that occasion, he also revealed a number of strategies to improve the performance of national business competition.

First, harmonization and structuring of central and regional regulations in reducing barriers to business and market entry and reducing high economic costs, especially in areas with low IPU.

Second, providing greater opportunities for regional business actors, especially small and medium scale in the real estate sector and construction services by changing regulations on procurement of goods and services,” he said, while expressing hope for the issuance of regulations on the national business competition strategy.

Third, we hope the President will issue presidential regulations related to the national strategy or the National Strategy for Business Competition as stipulated in the National Strategy for Corruption Prevention and the National Strategy for Consumer Protection,” he remarked.
