Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung on Monday (1/6) attended the Commemoration of the Birthday of Pancasila (the Five Principles/ the Indonesian State Philosophy) through video conference from his residence in Jakarta.

This year’s Pancasila Day adopts the theme “Pancasila in Action through Mutual Cooperation towards Advanced Indonesia,” which reflects the conditions of the Indonesian people amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The virtual ceremony of Pancasila Day was attended by Heads of State Institutions, Ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet, Heads of Non-ministerial Government Agencies, Indonesia’s representatives, and Regional Heads.

The ceremony begun with singing of the national anthem “Indonesia Raya”. Afterwards, People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Bambang Soesatyo recited the five principles of Pancasila and House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani recited the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution.

The ceremony continued with the President’s mandate and prayer recitation by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Muhadjir Effendy.

For the record, the Birth of Pancasila Day falls every June 1 since the official declaration was marked by the first Indonesian President Sukarno’s speech before the Agency for the Preparatory Work for Indonesian Independence (BPUPKI).

Therefore, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on 1 June 2016 issued Presidential Decree Number 24 of 2016 on the birth of Pancasila.

The Presidential Decree takes into account Pancasila as the state ideology so that Pancasila should be recognized and preserved by all citizens from generation to generation.

The stipulation of the Presidential Decree officially declared June 1 as the birth of Pancasila and June 1 has been a national holiday since 2017. (EN)
