Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung has called on Muslims in Indonesia to do their best in observing the long-awaited holy fasting month of Ramadan, a month full of blessings and forgiveness.

“Let us observe this meritorious month of Ramadan well. We pray, we tolerate each other, and we must also share with others and help them. These are the merits of Ramadan,” Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said in his message in welcoming the month of Ramadan 1443 Hijri, Saturday (04/02).

Pramono also reminded Muslims to always adhere to strict health protocols when observing ritual activities during the month.

Previously, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said in his press statement that the Government has decided to relax public activity restrictions following the improving trend of COVID-19.

This year, he added, Muslims can observe tarawih prayer in congregation at mosques while still adhering health protocols.

“For those who want to take part in mudik (annual going home town during Eid al-Fitr), you are allowed to do it as long as you have been fully vaccinated, received booster jab, and are required to follow strict health protocols,” the President said.

However, he added that government high-ranking officials and state civil apparatus are not allowed to organize a mass iftar (breaking fasting) event and an open house event during Eid al-Fitr.

The President also reminded the importance of maintaining discipline in observing health protocols and maintaining the downward trend of COVID-19 cases. (MAY/UN) (RAS/HD/EP)
