Raden Ajeng (RA) Kartini’s commitment for the nation has inspired many Indonesian women to follow Kartini’s ideals, according to Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.

The Cabinet Secretary also said that many Indonesian women have strategic roles in the nation.

“Indonesia is proud because it has given birth of many strong Kartinis. Indonesian women have become President, Speaker of the Parliament (DPR), Ministers, Governors, Regents, Mayors, Ambassadors, and other important political roles,” Cabinet Secretary said in his statement delivered through the Cabinet Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Thursday (04/21).

The Cabinet Secretary added that the spirit carried by Kartini was followed by strong and great Indonesian women from time to time, from year to year.

“We should be grateful that every April 21 we commemorate Kartini Day. Kartini’s inspiration is timeless, always inspiring Indonesian women from generation to generation,” he said.

For the record, April 21, which is commemorated as Kartini Day, is the birth date of RA Kartini. Quoted from the Kemendikbud.go.id page, Kartini was born on April 21, 1879, from a noble family to a father named Raden Mas Adipati Ario Sosroningrat, the son of Prince Ario Tjondronegoro IV, a nobleman who served as Regent of Jepara, and a mother named M.A. Ngasirah, the son of a kiai or religious teacher in Telukawur, Jepara regency.

Kartini is a national heroine who was persistent in fighting for the emancipation of women. Kartini, the pioneer of equality between women and men in this country, was declared a national heroine, based on Decree of President of the Republic of Indonesia Number 108 of 1964 signed by President of the Republic of Indonesia Soekarno on May 2, 1964.

Happy Kartini Day to strong Indonesian women! (MAY/UN) (RI/HD/MMB)
