Developing human capital is one of the top priorities of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s second and final administration, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung has said.

“Indonesia will never move forward if the majority does not advance, including boarding schools. To build boarding schools is to build Indonesia,” Pramono said during the inauguration of a low-cost apartment at Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School in the East Javan town of Kediri, Saturday (15/2).

For this reason, the Secretary added, there is no need for a division as it has come to an end.

“So, if there are people who promote intolerance, it is one of the obligations for Lirboyo alumni to campaign, to explain it. Do not be afraid,” he added.

In this era of social media, Pramono added, the role of the Lirboyo alumni can help in the campaign of tolerance.

On the occasion, Pramono also stated that President Jokowi expressed his best regards to the management and alumni of Lirboyo.

In the meantime,  head of Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School has requested for the additional construction of the Lirboyo low-cost apartment to accommodate 29,000 students and an ambulance.

In response to that, Pramono said:  “Minister of Transportation will provide a multi-purpose bus equipped with medical equipment.”

Established by Sholeh Banjarmelati and his son-in-law Abdul Karim in 1910, Lirboyo is one of the biggest Salafiyah boarding schools and is well-known for teaching Quranic verses.

The low-cost apartment was built by Specific Non-Vertical Work Unit for the Provision of Housing in East Java Province and PT. Paramitra Multi Prakasa with a construction period of 180 calendar days.

The total budget for the construction of the tower reached Rp3,592,393,210 for physical works and Rp401,408,304 for furniture procurement.

The low-cost apartment consists of a tower with two floors and two barracks on each floor which makes it 4 barracks in total. The area of the building covers 289.71m2 and can accommodate 88 students. (FID/EN)
