Cabinet Secretary: Presidential Regulation Number 60 of 2020 Stipulates Spatial Planning

Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 60 of 2020 on Spatial Planning for Urban Areas in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Puncak, and Cianjur (Jabodetabek-Punjur) is purely a matter of spatial planning, according to Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.

“The Presidential Regulation is purely a matter of spatial planning in the Jabodetabekpunjur region. The Regulation must be reviewed every five years,” the Cabinet Secretary said on Friday (8/5).

Pramono added that the Presidential Regulation is based on Law on Spatial Planning that stipulates the establishment of Jabodetabekpunjur as a National Strategic Area.

Pramono went on to say that the Presidential Regulation does not mention the status of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (DKI Jakarta) in the next five years. The Presidential Regulation, he added, stipulates that the spatial arrangement of DKI Jakarta still accommodates its function as the national capital.

“As of today, legally speaking, DKI Jakarta is still the national capital and administrative center, so that the spatial planning must accommodate or maintain the existing functions of DKI Jakarta as the national capital and administrative center,” the Cabinet Secretary concluded.

For the Record, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on 13 April, 2020 signed Presidential Regulation Number 60 of 2020. The scope of the Regulation includes: a. the role and function of the spatial planning and the coverage of the Jabodetabek-Punjur urban area; b. the objectives, policies and strategies of the Jabodetabek-Punjur urban spatial planning; c. the spatial structure plan, spatial pattern plan, spatial use, and control of spatial planning use for Jabodetabek-Punjur urban area; d. the Jabodetabek-Punjur urban area management; and e. the role of communities in the Jabodetabek-Punjur urban area.
