On the second day of his working visits to East Java Province, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Friday (4/1) conducted an impromptu visit (blusukan) to Ngemplak Market to inspect the price of staple food.

Upon his arrival, President Jokowi and entourage were welcomed enthusiastically by vendors in the market and local residents.

On that occasion, President Jokowi inspected several stalls including that which sell rice and broiler chicken, and had a dialog with the owners. The Head of State also took his time to buy the two commodities.

“The price of chicken meat is Rp31,000 per kilogram. The price has dropped compared to that ahead of Christmas and New Year,” a vendor told the President.

After strolling around to inspect for about 30 minutes, President Jokowi left the market for another location in his working visit in Tulungagung Regency.

Accompanying President Jokowi on that occasion were Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung and Governor of East Java Soekarwo. (RAH/OJI/RSF/UN/ES)
