Choose Experienced Figure as PLN’s President Director: President Jokowi to SOEs Minister

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo instructed Minister of State-owned Enterprises Erick Thohir to search for experienced figures as candidates for president director of state-owned electricity company PLN.

“We search for experienced figures because electricity is very crucial, not only for people’s daily lives but also for economic growth,” Erick told reporters after a limited meeting at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (11/12).

The Minister stated whoever the appointed figure is, he/she must have the commitment. The country, according to Erick, will experience a shortage of electricity by 2023 if there are no more powerplants built. Not to mention that the electricity should be stably maintained, if the nation’s economy will continue to grow at 5%. Erick confirmed that the decision to appoint former Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara as the president director has not been made yet. “He is only a candidate. Yet, the decision is still on progress,” he said, adding that there must always be three candidates processed by the Final Assessment Team (TPA).

For the records, the decision will be made after General Meeting of Shareholders (GMS) of state-owned flag carrier PT. Garuda Indonesia is held in January. (MAY/RAH/ES)
