President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Monday (12/05) visited residents displaced by the recent Cianjur quake at the Presidential Security Details (Paspampres) disaster relief post.

On that occasion, the President ensured that the construction of relocation houses for the affected residents must begin today.

“I notice that all the displaced residents are healthy, but many of them want the house construction to start immediately,” President Jokowi told the press.

The President also stated that the relocation area was selected through a study from competent, related institutions to ensure the safety of the relocated residents.

The Government, President Jokowi added, has allocated funds to affected residents who will not relocated that will be provided starting Thursday (12/08) once the verification process is complete, be it through direct distribution and bank accounts.

“Each household with heavy-damaged house will receive Rp50 million. Moderate-damaged ones will receive Rp25 million and light-damaged ones will receive Rp10 million,” the President said, adding that the assistance is expected to help affected residents repair their houses and engage in other economic activities.

President Jokowi also expressed hope that the construction of 56,000 houses for affected residents can begin immediately and be completed as soon as possible.

“Please start the reconstruction immediately so that the houses can be finished as soon as possible for the people are already rain-soaked and suffer from cold in the evacuation tents,” he remarked. (FID/UN) (GWH/EP)
