President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday (26/12) visited the construction site of Ciawi Dam in Bogor Regency, West Java Province and ensured that land acquisition issue would be immediately resolved.

The construction of Ciawi Dam – which is located approximately 4.5 kilometers from Sukamahi Dam – is targeted to be completed in 2019.

“Director General of Water Resources has told me that the construction will be partially completed in January 2019.  We are currently dealing with payment issue and the construction of the dam will continue. I don’t think there are complaints or issues found on the ground,” the President said.

The Sukamahi and Ciawi Dams – which are part of the construction of 49 new dams in the administration of President Jokowi and Vice President Jusuf Kalla – are specifically built to control flooding in capital Jakarta by slowing down water flow towards the city.

The water will first be accommodated in the two dams before being flowed to the Katulampa Dam, which will gradually flow the water to the capital.

“The Sukamahi and Ciawi dams will mitigate flooding in Jakarta,” the President said.

For the record, Ciawi Dam has a volume of 6.45 million cubic meters of water or can hold up to 365 cubic meters of water per second, while Sukamahi Dam – which was also recently inaugurated by President Jokowi – has a volume of 1.68 million cubic meters or can hold up to 56 cubic meters per second.
