Cibatu-Garut Route Reactivation To be Completed By End of 2019

In an effort to promote Garut’s tourism potentials and to boost economy in the region, state-owned railway operator PT KAI will reactivate the Cibatu-Garut route in West Java which is part of the Cibatu-Garut-Cikajang train routes stretching 47.5 kilometers.

Director of PT KAI Edi Sukmoro asserted that reactivation of Cibatu-Garut route will be completed this year, while the reconstruction process will begin in May 2019.

For the record, the Cibatu-Garut route is already exist, but only used by large mallet locomotives. The route was deactivated since the locomotives are no longer used. In addition, reactivation of Cibatu-Garut-Cikajang routes will be done concurrently with 3 other routes in West Java, namely the Rancaekek-Tanjungsari route, the Banjar-Pangandaran-Cijulang route, and the Bandung-Ciwidey route.

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati who inspected the development plan of Garut Station that has been deactivated since 1983, on Friday (26/4), expressed her appreciation to PT KAI for its performance in reactivating the Cibatu-Garut route that is projected to complete by the end of this year.

“If the development of Garut Station can be completed by the end of this year, I take my hat off to you,” the Minister said. (Ministry of Finance PR/ES)
