Communication Minister: Palapa Ring Section West, Central, East to be Integrated by June

The Government has set target to finish the construction of East Palapa Ring by mid-year that will complete the whole Palapa Ring project.

“God willing, Insha Allah, the series of this Palapa Ring project can be integrated in the middle of this year considering the progress of East Palapa Ring is 94 percent done. Palapa Ring project comprising three sections – the west, central, and east – will be integrated in June 2019 at the latest,” Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara said in Jakarta, Wednesday (20/3).

Rudiantara went on to say that the Government is committed to do everything possible for the people’s interests and will not stop carrying on its duties, one of which by finishing Palapa Ring project.

“It is not an easy task, but we never give in because providing all regencies and cities in Indonesia with high-speed internet network is our priority,” the Minister firmly said.

In developing East Palapa Ring, workers have faced many obstacles, particularly in some parts of Papua and West Papua; they must ride on helicopter to reach location to build towers on the mountain, according to the Minister.

“We must construct towers on the mountain, there is no other way to reach the location than using a helicopter,” he added.

Rudiantara said that the Palapa Ring project is one of the Government’s efforts in connecting all islands in Indonesia through high-speed internet network. (Ministry of Communication and Informatics’ PR/ES)
