Comprehensive measures are pivotal in tackling money laundering and terrorism financing, according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“The measures to tackle money laundering and terrorism financing must be taken in a comprehensive manner. We must be two or three steps ahead of the perpetrators. We must also develop international cooperation, streamline regulations, maintain transparency, enforce laws indiscriminately, and utilize technology,” the President said during the 22nd Anniversary of the National Movement for Anti-Money Laundering and Prevention of Terrorism Financing (AML-PTF), at the State Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (04/17)

Tech-based schemes in money laundering, the President added, must be carefully monitored.

Data from Crypto Crime Report shows that that the value of crypto asset money laundering in 2022 reached US$8.6 billion, equivalent to Rp139 trillion.

The President also reminded government officials to stay vigilant against the threat of terrorism financing, adding that the threat must continue to be monitored and prevented.

“I hope the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (FTRAC) and other government ministries/agencies will continue to enhance the cooperation and innovation,” the President said, adding that the Government will continue taking necessary measures to save and collect state money through the Asset Confiscation Law and Bank Note Restriction Law.

“The bills are being deliberated in the House of Representatives. We must protect the people’s rights, and the perpetrators must be held responsible for the state losses,” the President remarked. (TGH/UN)
