Having visited the residents of Gunung Kidul, President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo and First Lady Ibu Iriana Jokowi inspected the drain construction of rainwater seepage in Potrowangsan Hamlet, Sidoarum Village, Godean Subdistrict, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, on Monday (10/10) afternoon.

This is the implementation of Rural Development Sector Programme which runs from September to October 2016. The budget for the 160-meter drain construction of rainwater seepage was from the Village Budget for Fiscal Year 2016 amounted to Rp50.000.000,- and self-funding Rp12.000.000,-.

Even in the rain, President Jokowi along with Minister for Villages, Underdeveloped Regions, and Transmigration Eko Putro Sandjojo inspected the construction of drains in detail and discussed the use of village funds.

Some time ago, President Jokowi instructed the relevant parties to manage the village fund independently so that it can make a better economic turnaround in the village. The Central Government has allocated the village fund of Rp40 trillion or doubled compared to the previous year to address social inequalities.

“It is expected that the economic turnaround in the village is going better,” the President said at the Presidential Palace on Monday, 13 June 2016.

On the same occasion, local residents who have been looking forward to the arrival of the President and his entourage wanted to have a selfie and shake hands with the President and the First Lady.

This inspection concluded the entire series of the President’s working visit. President Joko Widodo, the First Lady, and their entourage headed to the Adi Sutjipto Air Force Base Yogyakarta to return to Jakarta. (BPMI/SLN)
