Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto called on people to support the peaceful 2019 General Election.

“Without public support, it is impossible for the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to maintain security”, Wiranto said during working meeting and signing of the National Counter terrorism Agency (BNPT) performance agreement in Jakarta, Thursday (17/1).

Wiranto further said that the Government has made a lot of effort in maintaining security during the 2017 and 2018 regional elections and has been successful in ensuring the elections ran smoothly.

“With those experiences, we already have rules, instruments, and indicators to maintain security during the upcoming election.” Wiranto said.

Regarding the potential threat of terrorism, the Coordinating Minister urged all Government ministries and agencies to improve their strategies and cooperation in combating terrorism.

Wiranto went on to say that the BNPT needs supports from other government institutions to deal with terrorism. He also added that more personnel and job titles have been assigned to the BNPT to improve its capability in maintaining national security and eradicating terrorism.

“Without security, democracy will not work and without democracy, we cannot build this country and achieve more goals,” Wiranto concluded. (Humas Kemenko Polhukam/ES)
