Defending State is Every Citizen’s Rights & Duties

Currently, the threats to the sovereignty of our nation and state are turning into a multidimensional one. The threats are no longer in the forms of physical threat, but also ideological, political, economic and socio-cultural.

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo made that statement in his introductory remarks at a limited meeting on the Consolidation of State Defense Program on Wednesday (26/7), at the Presidential Office, Jakarta.

The Government along with the people will not do nothing to those systematic actions that threaten the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, the President firmly said.

“We will not let the threats undermine the basic ideology of Indonesia, Pancasila,” the President added.

Therefore, that limited meeting will discuss the consolidation of state defense program which can collectively gather the power of the nation in order to address multidimensional threats.

“Once again, I reminded all that defending the state is our tasks, duties as an Indonesian citizen, children of the nation regardless of our location, background, education, religious beliefs, or ethnicities. We are all have the same rights and duties to participate in the effort of defending the state as mentioned in the 1945 Consitution,” President Jokowi said.

The President also wants all to foster the values of the nation, nationalism, as well as patriotism in defending the nation and state from all kinds of threat from the early childhood.

“The children should be taught not only the values of work ethics, discipline, integrity, but also be taught to love the country, and be proud of the motherland that is united in diversity (Bhinneka Tunggal Ika),” President Jokowi added.

Also attending the limited meeting were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut B. Pandjaitan, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Defense Ryamizard Ryacudu, Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reforms Asman Abnur, Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education M. Nasir, Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara, Attorney General Prasetyo, Indonesian Defense Forces Commander Gen.
