Delegations Arrive in Bali for AIS Forum Summit
Prime Minister (PM) of Democratic Republic of São Tomé, Partice Emery Trovoada Sunday (10/08) arrived at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Report, Bali to attend the 2023 Forum Archipelago and Island States (AIS) Summit to be held in Nusa Dua on 10-11 October 2023.
Upon arrival at 17.00 Central Indonesia Time, he was welcomed by Ministry of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya and Cordon Guard of the Presidential Security Details (Paspampres), consists of the best military soldiers from the Indonesian Army. The Cordon Guard serves to extend military honors to state guests attending this summit, such as firing a gun salute, opening state guests’ car door, and escorting state guests from entrance to their seats.
Afterwards, PM Partice Emery Trovoada was entertained by Pendet Dance, traditional welcoming dance from Bali. This dance is usually performed on religious and traditional ceremonies in Bali. Beside as a welcoming dance, Pendet also serves as a tribute for gods and an importance part of cultural heritage in Bali. The dance performance is a sacred and wonderful moment in several religious and traditional ceremonies in the island.
Besides PM Trovoada, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Indonesian, Norimasa Shimomura arrived on the same day at 17.20 Central Indonesia Time. He was welcomed by Assistant to Deputy Minister for Energy, Coordinating Ministry of Maritime and Investment Ridha Yasser.
High Commissioner for the Cook Islands Kairangi Samuela also arrived and was welcomed by Assistant to Deputy Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment for Navigation and Maritime Security, Nanang Widiayatmojo. Deputy Prime Minister Tonga Samiu Vaipulu was welcomed by Assistant to Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment for Legal and Maritime Agreements, Radian Nurcahyo.
On the same day, Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy of the Republic of Seychelles, Jean Francois Gabriel Ferrari and Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Solomon Islands, Jeremiah Manele have arrived at the airport.
For the record, this year’s AIS Forum Summit which adopted a theme “Fostering Collaboration, Enabling Innovation for Our Ocean and Future” will discuss several global issues regarding to the oceans. In the summit, Indonesia will encourage and will focus on three aspects, among others blue economy development, climate change threats, and efforts to foster solidarity between islands and archipelagos.
