Deputy Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono has urged regional governments and the health offices to continue accelerating vaccination drive for vulnerable groups of people, especially the elderly and people with comorbidities.

Vaccines to this group of people are expected to reduce the fatality rate, he said.

“The elderly group and those with comorbidities are very crucial because most of the deaths (50 percent) are those with comorbidities,” Dante said in his press statement on welcoming the arrival of 1.2 million doses of Pfizer vaccine, Thursday (2/9).

Dante went on to say that the number of elderly people who had received the vaccine is still very low. For this reason, he asked all parties to boost vaccination coverage for this particular group.

“Let’s continue to support the acceleration of vaccination for the elderly. We register and accompany our parents, relatives, and even our elderly neighbors so that they can participate in the vaccination drive for the sake of their health and safety,” he said.

On the occasion, Dante also reiterated that discipline in implementing health protocols and vaccinations is the key to success in tackling the pandemic. (TGH/UN) (EST/MUR)
