Diamond Princess Cruise Ship’s Quarantine to End Soon

The quarantine period for Diamond Princess cruise ship which carries 78 Indonesian crew members will end by 19 February 2020, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi has said.

The United States Company-owned Diamond Princess cruise ship was placed under mandatory quarantine in the waters off Yokohama, Japan, last week over fears of contamination of a passenger who disembarked from Hong Kong and may has been infected by corona virus (COVID-19).

“Among 3,711 people on board, 78 Indonesian nationals are working as the ship’s crew. No passengers are from Indonesia, only the crew,” Retno said after attending a Limited Meeting at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, (17/2)

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy added that the Government will continue to observe Indonesian nationals living abroad who remain threatened by the virus.

Other than that, the Government also prioritizes domestic security by tightening security in border areas and preparing medical equipment needed for inspection.

“The Government will also tighten scrutiny of travel history and health record of foreign citizens who enter Indonesia,” Muhadjir explained.

For the record, the observation for Indonesians who were evacuated from Chinese city of Wuhan, was finished last Saturday (15/2). The Foreign Minister expressed gratitude for the evacuation and observation team who have worked very hard to support the whole process.
