Creativity may emerge from simplicity. A  movie titled ‘Dilan 1990’ is an example of simplicity which is shot from the right perspective and camera angle.

The statement was made by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to the reporters after watching ‘Dilan 1990’ in a cinema located in Senayan, Jakarta on Sunday (25/2).

According to the President, the movie, adapted from a book written by Pidi Baiq, is about the life of teenagers which is produced well and has interesting stories.

“It is simple and not exaggerating. In fact, it is the simplicity that attracts a lot of viewers to watch it and I think I need to tell you that,” the President added.

Given the fact that ‘Dilan 1990’ attracts large audiences, President Jokowi hopes Indonesia’s creative industry to grow further in the future.

“We want our creative industry to grow further, can use the opportunities properly including through film industry,” the President stated.

On that occasion, President Jokowi is accompanied by his daughter Kahiyang Ayu and son-in-law Bobby Nasution. For the record, the First Lady Ibu Iriana at that time was in Solo, Central Java to attend a wedding reception so she could not accompany the President to the movie.

Responding to reporters’ question whether the President missed the First Lady particularly after watching ‘Dilan 1990’, President Jokowi cannot deny it.

“Tonight, I have three wedding receptions to attend. Thus, I shared it (with the First Lady).  But I have to admit that missing someone is not easy though it has been only two days (since Ibu Iriana went to Solo),” the President said.

After watching the movie, President Jokowi has a casual talk with the movie director Fajar Bustomi and two cast members played in that movie. They are Ira Wibowo as the mother of Dilan, and Andryos Aryanto as Nandan (Dilan’s rival). (BPMI/EN) (RAS/MUR/MMB/Naster)
