“Don’t Just Sit Behind Your Desks,” President Joko Widodo Says

President Joko Widodo inaugurated the elected governors and deputy governors at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Friday (12/2) afternoon

President Joko Widodo inaugurated 7 (seven) pairs of governors and deputy governors who were elected in the simultaneous regional elections (Pilkada), at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Friday (12/2) afternoon.

The seven pairs are, as follows:

1. Sdr. H. Sahbirin Noor, S.Sos., M.H. and Drs. H. Rudy Resnawan (South Kalimantan)

2. Sdr. H. Zumi Zola Zulkilfi, S. TP., MA. and Dr. H. Fachrori Umar, M. Hum. (Jambi)

3. Prof. Dr. H. Irwan Prayitno, P.Si., M.Sc., and Drs. H. Nasrul Abit (West Sumatera)

4. Sdr. Olly Dondokambey, S.E. and Drs. Steven O.E Kandouw (North Sulawesi)

5. Drs. H. Muhammad Sani and Dr. Nurdin Basirun, S.Sos., M.Si. (Riau Islands)

6. Dr. Ir. Irianto Lambrie, M.M. and Sdr. H. Udin Hianggio (NorthKalimantan)

7. Dr. H. Ridwan Mukti, M.H. and Dr. H. Rohidin Mersyah, M.M. ( Bengkulu)

The inauguration ceremony starting from the Merdeka Palace when each pair entered the waiting room accompanied by a marching band of Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres).

After arriving at the Merdeka Palace, the elected governors and deputy governors headed to Credential Room at Merdeka Palace to receive an excerpt of Presidential Decree Number 13P of 2016 on Legalization of the Inauguration of Governors and Deputy Governors for 2016-2021 period.

After receiving the excerpt, the seven pairs of governors and deputy governors headed to State Palace, Jakarta, to follow the next inauguration procession that is the swearing-in ceremony. After that, they signed the minutes of inauguration ceremony before President Joko Widodo.

After the inauguration, the President gave directions to the governors and deputy governors. Starting his directions, the President congratulated them who were elected in a democratic pilkada last year.

“For the success of pilkada, I would like to congratulate and express my utmost appreciaton to the officers of central and regional General Elections Commission (KPU), the Elections Monitoring Agency (Bawaslu) and its officers in the regions, the Honorary Council of Election Management Bodies (Dewan Kehormatan Penyelenggara Pemilu), security officers, and all parties that ensured the simultaneous pilkada run safely, peacefully, and democratically.

The President also said that now is the time to walk together. “It’s the time for us to walk together to face the heaviest history exam, to fulfill your promise in your regions. All of you must promise to work day and night to ensure that all people can feel the Government’s policy,” the President affirmed.

On that occasion, the President also told the governors and deputy governors to see the real condition. “Don’t just sit behind your desks, see the real condition to solve the problems,” the President added.

The President also asked them to ensure the people’s needs are met, water, for example. They must also close with their people. “The people must be happy welcoming you as their new leaders, with a new mandate and leadership spirit,” the President said.

Concluding his remarks, President Joko Widodo told the governors and deputy governors to establish dwitunggal (two-in-one) relations by strengthening and completing each other. “Work well and fulfill the mandate, close with the people so that all of you become trusted leaders,” the President said.

The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, the 5th President of the Republik of Indonesia Megawati Soekarno Putri, Cabinet Secretary Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo, Commander of Indonesian National Defence Forces Gen.
