Education Ministry to Collaborate with Research Agency to Boost Innovation

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (28/04/2021) appointed Nadiem Anwar Makarim as Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology at the State Palace in Jakarta.

After his inauguration, Nadiem expressed gratitude to the President for trusting him to receive a new mandate to lead the Ministry.

According to Nadiem, research and technology are something that are very close to his heart because both are something he persevered before leading Ministry of Education and Culture.

Therefore, Nadiem expressed hope that he could be able to improve the quality and innovation of Indonesian universities in research and technology sector.

“As we know, we (Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology) will also be a partner of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). And we are very excited to be able to work with Laksana Tri Handoko as Head of the BRIN,” he added.

Nadiem also expressed hope that there will be many students and lecturers who conduct researches and other programs, including Kampus Merdeka (Freedom Campus) program under the BRIN.

“The program is also one of the things that also goes hand-in-hand with the link and match program and the increase of 21st century skills in our universities encourage students to develop soft skills, to do research, to be involved in social projects, to gain more experiences in internships, industries, and to join various student exchanges programs,” Nadiem added.

Nadiem expressed confidence that the program will be good news for universities because now research and education transformation sectors are included in one ministry so that rectors from universities all over Indonesia can easily coordinate with the Central Government. (FID/AIT/TAR) (AP/EP)
