Elections Run Smoothly, President Jokowi Says

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo expressed his gratitude before heads of government institutions for the successful presidential and legislative elections held on 17 April 2019.

“Alhamdulillah, praise be to Allah, the elections ran smoothly,” President Jokowi said during Iftaar dinner at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday (6/5).

Previously, the President received a number of congratulatory messages from world leaders for the smooth and peaceful elections.

Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison has congratulated President Jokowi on Sunday (5/5) for 2019 elections that went peacefully and democratically.

On Saturday evening (4/5), President Jokowi also received a congratulatory message from British Prime Minister Theresa May via phone call. During the conversation, President Jokowi expressed gratitude to PM May for the support of the British Government during elections, particularly for Indonesian citizens in London. He also explained that the event went peacefully, fairly and transparently. (FID/OJI/ES)
