The upcoming legislative and presidential elections should not disrupt national development, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has said.

“We must carry on the drafting process of the 2020 Government Work Plan as well as setting the macroeconomic and fiscal policy principles for 2020. Those process are basis for the 2020 State Budget draft, in accordance with the technocratic RPJMN (National Medium Term Development Plan) which is being finalized at the Bappenas (National Development Planning Agency),” the President said in his introductory remarks to the Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (6/3).

According to the President, the Government should continue to prioritize human capital development next year to maintain sustainability of national development.

The rapidly-changing global development such as normalization of monetary policy in the United States, fluctuations in commodity prices, trade wars and protectionism, China’s moderate growth, as well as security and world geopolitics should also be anticipated, he added.

Therefore, President Jokowi called on state apparatus to maintain the momentum of a positive economic growth and improve partnership with private sector through export and investment to overcome the limitation of the State Budget.

“We have to push through a host of reforms to boost investment and exports in order to build up trust from  business entities to create maximum benefits, provide jobs, and lower unemployment rate,” President Jokowi concluded. (DND/EN/AGG/ES)
