President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo asserted that the plan for the establishment of the Indonesian National Police’s (Polri) anti-corruption squad (Densus Tipikor) is still a proposal. The Government will discuss it at a Limited Cabinet Meeting next week. “It’s still a proposal, later next week we will discuss it in a Limited Meeting,” President Jokowi answered reporters’ questions after attending the closing of the 11th Congress of Veteran Legion of the Republic of Indonesia (LVRI) 2017 at Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday (19/10).

The President asked reporters to ask the matter to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto. “I will explain you about it after the Limited Meeting,” the President said.

Meanwhile, Minister Wiranto said that the establishment of an anti-corruption squad currently being drafted by the Polri is a part of the spirit to take part in the prevention and eradication of corruption in Indonesia.

Minister Wiranto went on to say that all elements of the nation are now concerned as the corruption acts continue to occur, even such acts have been penetrated into some institutions that did not exist before. Therefore, we have that spirit, including the Polri to form a Densus Tipikor.

Gives it is still a proposal, Minister Wiranto further explained, it will take a long process. There will be a Coordination Meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, because before the Cabinet Meeting led by the President, there is already an instruction to be discussed first at the Coordinating Minister. “So, it will be discussed first in the Coordinating Minister regarding the merits and harms. Afterwards, the issue will be discussed at a Limited Cabinet Meeting directly led by the President and Vice President. We will find out the decision in the Limited Cabinet Meeting,” Minister Wiranto explained.

Currently, Minister Wiranto considered that the plan for the establishment of Densus Tipikor is still premature. “No need to debate, we will discuss it carefully. One thing for sure is that it will lead to goodness, benefits, the principle of benefits,” Minister Wiranto concluded. (RMI/JAY/ES) (MUR/YM/Naster).
