Female Ministers Walk on Catwalk during ‘Istana Berkebaya’ Fashion Show
Istana Berkebaya, the first fashion show held on the front yard of the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Sunday (08/06), was attended by thousands of participants including ministers, female ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet and their spouses, spouses of ambassadors of friendly countries, professional models, as well as public in general.
One of female ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, walked on the catwalk for the first time.
“I am happy but very nervous. It is my first time to be a model on catwalk. Today, I, along with other female ministers, participants, will participate in a fashion show wearing a traditional cloth from Betawi, Jakarta,” Retno added.
In addition, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani was also nervous to walk on the catwalk, while expressing her gratitude that Istana Berkebaya can reflect the beauty and diversity of the Indonesian culture.
On that occasion, one of female journalists Desi Anwar went on to say that a culture of wearing kebaya must be preserved and must continue, while underscoring that Indonesian people must be proud of it.
“It is my hope that a culture of wearing kebaya can continue,” she added.
Furthermore, representatives of the 2023 West Jakarta Abang None contestants Teresa and Wanda expressed their hope that innovations in wearing kebaya must be carried out so that kebaya can compete in developing fashion industry and be more recognized by the world.
