Economic activities during mudik (annual exodus ahead of Eid-al-Fitr) period can maintain consumption level above 5 percent, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani has said.

“We hope that this Eid atmosphere can generate momentum confidence in economy. As seen in the first quarter of this year, our gross is still quite good and consumption level is still above 5 percent. Hopefully, this condition will last so that commodity prices remain stable,” Sri explained during Eid Open House at Widya Chandra, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/6).

Furthermore, she said that Indonesia must aware of the global economic uncertainty, especially from the corporate side which tends to suffer bigger pressure, both in terms of exports and investment.

“Although Indonesia’s reputation and index of competitiveness have increased, so does our ease of doing business, but we are competing with the global uncertainty, not with other countries. This situation may be holding investors back,” she added.

However, considering the commitment from President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo to seriously address some issues regarding investment, the Minister is optimistic that the investment can increase after the second quarter. (Public Relations of Ministry of Finance / EN)
