First Lady Calls for Severe Punishment for Child Abuse Perpetrators

First lady Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo has called for severe punishment for perpetrators of child sexual abuse.

“The law must be applied firmly [against the perpetrators] and they must be punished severely according to their acts,” she said during a meeting with child sexual abuse survivors in West Bandung regency, Tuesday (12/21).

On that occasion, twelve survivors and one witness, assisted by psychologists, had a dialog with Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo and the second lady Ibu Wury Ma’ruf Amin.

Ibu Iriana also expressed hope that the abuse will not happen again.

The first lady also admitted she was very happy to meet the survivors and that they were in good health, adding that strict law enforcement must be applied to the perpetrators, who must be punished severely according to their actions. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RI/EP)
