First Lady Iriana Jokowi Hosts Tea Reception for ASEAN Leaders’ Spouses
First Lady Ibu Iriana Jokowi Wednesday (05/10) hosted a tea reception for fellow spouses of ASEAN leaders on the 2nd floor of Puncak Waringin, West Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara province.
In her speech, the First Lady welcomed the ASEAN leaders’ spouses to Labuan Bajo. Ibu Iriana believed that the spouses can experience the natural beauty of Labuan Bajo.
“I can see that all of you are happy to see all that Labuan Bajo has to offer,” the First Lady said.
The First Lady also mentioned that Labuan Bajo is the gateway to Komodo island, which is the home of Indonesia’s native Komodo dragon. She stated that Komodo dragons are a species of large lizards that can weigh up to 160 kilograms and be up to 3 meters long.
“They are very dangerous to get close to, but you can see them if you want,” she said.
In addition, the First Lady also explained the function of Puncak Waringin as the venue for the spouses’ program. According to her, Puncak Waringin will serve as a creative hub for creative economic activities in East Nusa Tenggara province.
“This spot will be developed as a creative hub, a center for culture-based creative economic activities,” she said.
The First Lady also expressed hope that the spouses can enjoy their time in Labuan Bajo.
“While enjoying our time in Labuan Bajo, I hope that all of us ladies here will be at the forefront of efforts to strengthen relations between ASEAN communities, for the advancement of women in ASEAN,” she said. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (FI/MMB)
