Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Wishnutama Kusbandio on Thursday (24/10) announced that he will focus on the development of five super-priority tourist destinations.

He also said that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has set a target that the development of basic tourism  infrastructure can be completed by 2020.

The five super-priority tourist destinations are Lake Toba in North Sumatra province, Likupang in North Sulawesi province, Borobudur Temple in Central Java, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province, and Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province.

“We will accelerate the development and unlock the potentials of those five super-priority tourist destinations as soon as possible,” said Wishnutama after attending a plenary cabinet meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

Wishnutama went on to explain that he will also continue the works of his predecessor Arief Yahya, whom he said had done his best. He also vowed to explore more potentials of tourist destinations in the country.

The Minister also expressed optimism that the development of those five super-priority tourist destinations will create more jobs; thus, he will work in synergy with training centers to equip local residents with skills.

“We will empower local communities,” said Wishnutama, adding that he has yet to specify the number of jobs expected to be created. (FID/JAY/ES)
