President Prabowo Subianto, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for paying a state visit and performing the Umrah pilgrimage, received a report from Indonesia regarding the sinking of KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya (a passenger ship) in the waters of the Bali Strait on Wednesday night (7/2). The ship was known to have departed from Ketapang Port, Banyuwangi for Gilimanuk Port, Bali, prior to the accident due to bad weather.

“Mr. President received a report and information from Indonesia regarding the sinking of KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya in the Bali Strait due to bad weather. The ship departed from Ketapang Port on Wednesday night,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in his statement from Mecca, Thursday morning (7/3).

Teddy said despite being in the Holy Land for performing his religious duties, the President remained attentive to the situation at home. He promptly instructed all relevant agencies to prioritize the rescue of the victims.
