President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Monday (06/15), expressed appreciation for President Prabowo Subianto’s warm welcome during his state visit to Indonesia.

“I am delighted to revisit Indonesia. This is my fourth visit. The number of visits shows how vital the relations with Indonesia are to us in Germany,” he said.

On that occasion, President Steinmeier underscored the importance of strengthening the two countries’ partnership, adding that relations have been built on a strong foundation since the 2012 Jakarta Declaration and have great potential for continued development across multiple sectors through extensive collaboration.

“You mentioned earlier how important the diversity of topics we discuss is and how great the developments have been over the past years, and how big the potential for more developments,” he said.

According to President Steinmeier, ASEAN plays a crucial role in building the architecture for regional security.

“Indonesia is an important stability factor in the ASEAN region, and we see that Indonesia is not only certain of that role but also continues to grow its crucial roles,” he said.

The German President also expressed hope that the signed Indonesia–European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) will soon be ratified by Germany, adding that the agreement will create new investment opportunities, strengthen innovation cooperation, and bring benefits to the business sectors of the two countries.

“This agreement has massive potential. It creates new investment opportunities and also creates opportunities for small and medium enterprises in Germany, allowing them to invest in Indonesia,” he said, adding that the agreement will mutually benefit the two countries.
