“Gojek Should not be Banned,” Presiden Joko Widodo Says

President Joko Widodo asserted that gojek and other application-based services present to answer the people’s need. Therefore, he added, a regulation should not harm the interests of the people.

“Who makes the regulation? It’s us. As long as the people need it, I think there is no problem,” the President told the journalists at Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, on Friday (18/12), responding Ministry of Transportation’s ban to the operational of ojek, gojek, and other application-based services.

Regarding the regulation, according to the President, we can make a transitional regulation until our mass transportation system is improving and comfortable. “Naturally, the people will make choices,” he said.

President Joko Widodo emphasized, we should not prohibit an innovation. In his view, gojek is an application created by young people who have innovative ideas. Thus, do not let the regulation curbs innovation.

According to the President, the Ministry of Transportation, particularly Transportation Services’Office should give a guidance to ensure the safety of the passengers.
