President Jokowi responds to the journalists’ questions at Ungaran, , Central Java (16/6)

Regarding the issue of presidential treshold that becomes one of crucial matters in the discussion of General Election Bill, President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo firmly said that this country’s political development is consistent toward simplification.

“Politics in this country is getting better and we should be consistent,” the President told the journalists after having dinner at Ungaran, Semarang Regency, Central Java, Saturday (17/6). By applying a treshold, the President believes that things will be more simple. He also has ordered the Minister of Home Affairs to monitor it.

As we are all aware, there are a number of crucial issues that have not been agreed in the discussion of General Election Bill. One of them is the issue presidential treshold. The President firmly said that the Government has not decided to withdraw from the discussion.

Meanwhile, regarding the possibility to issue a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) should the discussion at the House of the Representatives (DPR) cannot reach an agreement, the President said that he still waits for the discussion.

“The Government has talked to the fractions at DPR to think about our common interest. We must have a future vision of this country’s political condition. It must be prepared hencforth,” the President said. (BPMI Setpres/ES) (MMB/YM/Naster)
