The government is prepared to construct tens of thousands of temporary housing units (hunian sementara/huntara) in three-disaster affected provinces as part of emergency response efforts and early recovery for communities. During his visit to West Sumatra Province, President Prabowo Subianto inspected one of the huntara sites in Agam Regency on Thursday (12/18).
Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) will build thousands of huntara in these three affected provinces, which are 2,559 units in West Sumatera; 5,158 units in North Sumatera; and 36,328 units in Aceh. Therefore, in total the Government will build 44,045 units of huntara in those three-affected areas.
The construction of these huntara is aimed to ensure that affected communities have a decent housing during the rehabilitation and reconstruction process. The government emphasized that the provision of huntara is a priority so that community’s social and economic activities can recover immediately.
The data on temporary housing needs are provisional and may still be adjusted in line with the developments on the ground. The Government continues to coordinate with ministries and regional authorities to ensure that the construction of huntara can be carried out optimally and be utilized by the community as soon as possible.
