Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan during the Dissemination on Implementation of Digitalization Utilization in Payment and Retribution Systems at the New Market of Cicalengka in Bandung regency, West Java province (07/25)

The Government through Ministry of Trade Monday (07/25) has set a target to boost digitalization of 1,000 people’s markets and one million of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in all over Indonesia.

The statement was made by Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan during the Dissemination on Implementation of Digitalization Utilization in Payment and Retribution Systems at the New Market of Cicalengka in Bandung regency, West Java province.

Through digitalization, the Minister continued, people’s market will have marketplace so that the transaction between buyers and traders will be easier and the distribution chain will be shortened.

Zulkifli  expressed his belief that with more than 64 million MSMEs, Indonesia has great potential to accelerate digital transformation in trade sector and give positive contribution to digital economic growth in the country.

“However, do not let market digitalization lead to closure of conventional, traditional market. It means that digital ecosystem must be established, while physical ecosystem must be developed,” he added.

On that occasion, Zulkifli said that in implementing this program, the Government has collaborated with a number of stakeholders including central bank Bank Indonesia through SIAP-QRIS payment system, Indonesian technology company Tokopedia through its marketplace, ride hailing app Grab to deliver goods and groceries, and regional, national banks to facilitate traders to pay retribution.

Moreover, Ministry of Trade will also support traders by providing Information System on Trading Platform (SISP) so that traders can find out price information and make notes on average daily turnover as well as providing Monitoring System on Staple Food Market (SP2KP).

For the record, as of July 2022 there are 2,047 people’s markets using website through SISP, 10 people’s markets are on-boarding on Tokopedia, 537 people’s markets using e-monitoring through SP2KP, 9.7 million MSMEs using SIAP-QRIS, 106.702 traders using online retribution payment.

Furthermore, Zulkifli said that the program can serve as a pilot for other people’s markets to go digital and it is also expected to implement the program in other regions outside Java island. (PR of Ministry of Trade/UN) (AP/MUR)
