In a bid to speed up COVID-19 vaccination drive and immediately achieve herd immunity, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has announced a target to inject two million doses per day in August.

“Today, I am grateful that we can carry out mass vaccination across Indonesia from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas to Rote Island. Indeed, the target for today is one million (doses of) vaccine for the public, which we hope will be continually achieved in July. And in August, our target will be two million (doses of) vaccine,” the President said during the inspection of mass vaccination held at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Senayan, South Jakarta, Saturday (26/06).

At least 8,000 people were targeted to be vaccinated at the stadium.

In the meantime, mass vaccination was also carried out in fourteen military regional commands across Indonesia that were also inspected by the Head of State through video conference.

During the video conference, President Jokowi ordered the Indonesian National Defense Forces and the Indonesian National Police to take part in successfully carrying out vaccination programs and in disciplining the people in observing health protocols.

“I order all ranks of the military and the police, together with regional governments, to take part in disciplining the people in observing health protocols, mainly in terms of wearing a facemask, maintaining a safe distance. Direct actions in terms of discipline are essential,” he said. (FID/UN) (DH/EP)
