Gov’t Annuls 3,143 Troubled Bylaws

Based on the evaluation done by the Government to regional laws and regional head laws, the Government through Ministry of Home Affairs has annulled 3,143 regional laws deemed to impede economic growth in the regions and acceleration to win the competition, complicate bureaucracy, permit, investment process and ease of doing business, be against higher laws and regulations and the spirit of diversity and unity, and weaken national capacity.

“Therefore, I would like to announce that Minister of Home Affairs in accordance with its authority has annulled 3,143 troubled regional laws,” President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo said in his press statement at the Merdeka Palace on Monday (13/6).

“The measure is taken in order to make Indonesia a big, tolerant country with competitiveness,” the President added.

According to President Jokowi, as a big nation, Indonesia has to prepare itself so it can have a strong national capacity and be tough in facing competition among countries that is getting tougher.

As a plural country, Indonesia must also strengthen its spirit of tolerance and unity amidst diversity, the President further said.

“With tolerance and unity, we will be stronger in facing bigger challenges in the future,” he said, adding that in facing them, both the Central Government and regional governments must become a unity, have the same visions, directions, and purposes as well as can share burdens.

Joining the President during the announcement were Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki. (AGG/ES) (Naster/EP/YM)
