The Government has appointed actress and activist Maudy Ayunda as a spokesperson for the G20 Indonesia Presidency.
“In a bid to support the implementation of public communications for the G20 Indonesia Presidency, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce Ms. Maudy Ayunda as the Government’s Spokesperson for the G20 Indonesia Presidency,” Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny G. Plate said at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Thursday (03/31).
Born in 1994, the actress holds a bachelor’s degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from Oxford University and a dual master’s degree in Business Administration and Education from Stanford University.
“Maudy is also fluent in several foreign languages which hopefully will help her to perform her duties as the spokesperson. As a public figure of the millennials, it is expected that she will have the power to reach a wider community, especially the millennials and generation Z,” Johnny said.
According to him, the duty of the spokesperson is to disseminate information related to the implementation of the G20 Indonesia Summit which will be attended by leaders of the G20 member countries. In addition, the spokesperson should also relay the development of information on the series of G20 meetings including working groups, engagement groups, and side events on a regular basis.
“Therefore, the Indonesian people and the global communities can follow the development and substance of agenda of the G20 Indonesia Presidency,” he said.
The Minister underscored that the trust of the leaders of the G20 member countries in Indonesia must be utilized for the benefit of the Indonesian people and the global communities. Johnny expressed hope that the presence of a spokesperson will be able to support the dissemination and promotion efforts of the G20 Indonesia Presidency and contribute to the success of the Presidency, both in terms of substance and the organizing of the G20 chairpersonship.
“This opportunity must be utilized as well as possible for the benefit of the global communities and, in particular, for the benefit of our communities, our nation, and our country through Indonesia’s leadership role in the international arena. For this reason, the spokesperson holds a crucial function,” he said.
On the occasion, Maudy expressed her gratitude and joy for her appointment. “I’m Maudy Ayunda; I’m delighted to be in the company of friends at home and abroad. We are always ecstatic to follow the developments of the G20, especially because our country, Indonesia, is the host of this year’s G20,” she said.
Maudy also urged all Indonesian people and the global communities to actively participate in the success of this big event.
“This is a historic moment. This is Indonesia’s opportunity to encourage the world to recover and jointly overcome global economic challenges. Therefore, this historical duty must be greeted with joy and optimism,” Maudy said. (FID/UN)(FI/MUR)
