The Indonesian Government has announced it will strive to protect the people by producing or providing COVID-199 vaccine as soon as possible.

According to spokesperson for COVID-19 Task Force Wiku Adisasmito, various collaborative initiatives related to the vaccine have been made, one of which is cooperation between state-owned pharmacy company Bio Farma and China-based biopharmaceutical company Sinovac which is currently undergoing a phase 3 of clinical trial process.

“We hope the collaboration will be completed in the shortest time possible and the vaccine can be mass produced later,” said Wiku.

However, to promote the domestic industry, he added, the Indonesian Government also continues to lend support for domestic pharmaceutical companies such as PT Kalbe and other companies to produce their own vaccines.

Wiku went on to explain that those companies have also established a team of experts in the field of vaccines and drugs to ensure that the vaccine is appropriate and suitable for the Indonesian people.

“In developing the vaccine, the Indonesian Government prioritizes three important aspects, namely; safety, precision, speed,” Wiku said, adding that ‘safe’ means that the vaccine must be to protect the people of Indonesia with no side effects.

“It must also be ‘precise’, meaning that the vaccine can cause specific immunity to viruses circulating in Indonesia,” he said, adding that ‘speed’ means that the vaccine must be ready in sufficient quantities as soon as possible. (MAY / EN)
